12/17/08-12/19/08....Puerto Angel - Fernando's La Palmera RV..

Puerto Angel - Fernando's La Palmera RV is a rough park. It has rustic showers, very poor power, some shady spots and many chickens and roosters. There is a dump station and good water available. Rent is 200 pesos/night which is overpriced for the facilities. We will stay only 2 nights to get our laundry done.

Fernandos RV Park AKA "Rockin' Fighting Roosters RV Park". Over 100 fighting cocks constantly challenging each other from early morning 'til late at night - with additional challenging at 2 am - guess they were just getting an early start on the day.
Negotiated with Mgr. Juanita from 200 P a night to 120 P a night because none of the rigs could use the fluctuating electrical hookups. Couple full time RVers, Barbara and Jamie, thought we were totally unreasonable asking for a lesser rate for this park "on the beach". Right - one only has to walk 3 blocks through stores, houses, hotels and tall vegetation to get there. Boys took the dirty clothes to the laundry which was to be ready at 5. Then it is off to breakfast and free internet. Hot cakes, omalettes (queso & jamon), bacon, eggs, chili aquiles, and coffee rounded out the fare. Good breakfast enjoyed by all.
We opened up Sherry's Shady Tree Shop - under the shade tree - for a haircut and a perm. We were serenaded by the fighting cocks the total time - is that real Mexican music or what? Laundry delivered as it was not ready at 5 when John and Benjamin went to pick it up. Then it was movie night at Fernandos RV Park complete with treats - thank you Betty. The cocks were all quiet, perhaps they too were enjoying the movie?

Another very nice RV park. Grassy spots under palms but no hookups. There is a dump station and water is available. Good bathrooms and cool showers. 5 minute access to a very nice beach nestled between resorts. 10 min drive to a resort town with cruise ships and shopping. The manager speaks little English but is very friendly. Cost....only $5 cdn per person per night....much better than Fernando's RV which is 50 km away.

Left Puerto Angel area headed for Huatulco. Folks at Fernandos happy to see us go - especially John and his noisy generator. Typical road Mexico 200 to Tangolunda RV Park near Huatulco. Mgr. Santiago had us park in a line on the right side of the park as middle spaces were small - $100 Pesos a night with no electricity. Santiago's friend, Nerio, has a fishing boat. Came to camp and a fishing trip was arranged for the next
Day - $50 an hour for 4 persons for 5 hours. Benjamin & Lynette off to Huatulco on a propane run - darn - closed until 4 pm - 3 hours to burn. Toured the area, went to ATM, shopped for groceries, had a $10 marguerita on beach where the cruise ship Coral Princess was docked. Back to busy propane station. First in line but it took 1 hour to fill the 4 tanks. Traveling buddies about to head out looking for us but never fear - we arrived back safely. Fun happy hour enjoyed by all.

John, Bill, Benjamin, and Lynette all up early - headed out for a day of fishing. Watched a beautiful sunrise while waiting for the 7am meeting with Captain Nerio who arrived on time. Nerio's 15 year old son was co-captain for the day. Loaded in and ready to fish - headed out for dorado - still headed - still headed - here fishy, fishy - had a few snacks -enjoyed scenery, good conversation - now dolphins leading us out to sea, manta rays popping up everywhere, bird hitchin' a ride on one of the many sea turtles spotted. Was the fishing day but no catching day Big Bad Bill's fault, Jumpin' John' fault or Bumblin' Ben's fault? Couldn't be Lynette's! Oh, well, a nice boat ride including a personal encounter with one lucky sea turtle. Home to shower and catch up with the rest of the camp. Better fishing days are sure to come up.

We are enjoying this camp spot to the extent we decided to remain here until the 26th to celebrate Christmas before we move on. Jan. 15 is our half way point which we hope to be in the Yukatan near Cancun or Merida. Anyway this is probably our last or 2nd last chance on the Pacific Coast.
Today was another nice day in the lower 30's so Bill, Marilyn, Betty and Larry went snorkling among some rocks at the far end of the beach. There was some swell mixing up the waters and the visibility was only about 15 feet. Unfortunately Bill got pushed against some small sea urchins and ended up with a bunch of spines in his skin. They were not bothering him much but when Marilyn could not pull them out she took Billy to the clinic. The clinic's method was to beat the spines with a stick breaking them up then pulling the pieces out with tweasers. I guess they were pulling out the pieces for over an hour. Total cost....about $12 Cdn.
Today is Billy and Marilyns 40th aniversary. We are taking them out for dinner to a restaurant near here. They arrived back from the clinic an hour before we were to leave in good spirits......and so, it was off to dinner. We would like to share the following photos of our excellent dinner.....Our diets have all gone to hell.....after our lovely dinner, a French Canadian couple, Robert and Hugette Fortin, stopped by to offer their best wishes to Bill and Marily. Robert and Hugette are camping where we are camped. Larry

Wow, another beautiful day today. John, Sherry, Bill, Marilyn, Betty and Larry rent sea-do's for an hour this morning. We rent 3 units which will carry 2 people each and rather than just tear around making waves, we tour the coastline for a couple of miles enjoying the scenery and beautiful houses and resorts which abound.
Ben and Lynette take their car and visit a nearby town to see whats happening.
The rest of the day is spent house keeping, reading and generally relaxing.
HOW TO WIRE IN A LIGHT BULB
I just had to share these photos with you. Our campground host put up some lights the other day and it was not until a day later I had a good look at how they were done. Can you see that the bulb's base has its wire wrapped around a safety pin. The safety pin goes through a string of house wiring to make connection with the hot wires inside... neat eh?

Today was a quiet day. Marilyn went shopping of course. Betty and Lynette played cards. John and Sherry looked for birds. Larry bought our christmas turkey. We decided not to go out for Christmas dinner but to cook our own. This way we get left overs...yum
I am still trying to get the interactive map up and running. It is very difficult at our present location as our internet is very slow and I need to down load new files. It starts to slow down after 6 am so maybe I will try it again tomorrow at 4:30 am.
It is almost Christmas and still no snow! We are a bit jealous of our friends back in Canada and the States which seem to be getting a bunch of it now......NOT!.....Our weather is wonderful, 30-32C, sunny skies, warm water, some humidity but not too bad. This is an excellent campground even though no hookups are available but the price is right.....Larry

Bill, Marilyn, Larry went snorkeling at a different area today. It was better, we saw coral heads, many fish, a turtle feeding etc. We took our laundry out to get done and had a buffet breakfast at the same time. A good breakfast for $6 Cdn. Johnny supplied margaritas so we made up several batches. Note! If you add 1/2 a jalapeno pepper you get a nice green slightly spicy drink. If you add some pickled beets to this you get the same only red in color. Yes..... now you have Christmas Margaritas!
Johnny and Sheri make up a delicious batch of beans and jalapeno poppers for our dinner tonight. The rest of the group throw in salad, deserts etc. I must complement Marilyn on her excellent short bread…yum
