Hi, its me!

hairbetty (172K)

Hi everyone, Well we have made it as far as Yuma Arizona. And no, it was not a hair-raising trip....Just remind me not to backcomb my hair when Larry has the camera in hand. We had a good trip down from BC. Had to do a bit of juggling in Northern Nevada. Had planned to head over to visit Baja friends, Gordie and Glenda Muller in Monroe, Utah but snowy conditions forced us to change our minds. We headed south to Las Vegas and further on to much, very much warmer temperatures. We are here well ahead of our other traveling buddies so decided to take a three day trip north east to Apache Junction and Mesa. Both are just south of Phoenix. We spent a day touring around in the very scenic hills. We are now back in Yuma sitting in our air/conditioned camper with the outside temperature hovering around 100 degrees F. One of our traveling couples, Bill and Marilyn Mallett from Comox BC will be arriving here at the end of the month. Once they get a few things done here we will head for the Mexico border crossing south of Lukeville, Arizona. We plan to stay the night at Lukeville and cross the border early in the morning on November 7. We plan to make a run for Bahia de Kino to meet up with the other two couples, Ben and Lynette Johnson and John and Sherry Polcyn both from Colorado. They will make up our Mexico 2008 tour group. Our 10.5 foot camper is a big change from our 5th wheel but surprisingly we are managing just fine.

We spent 23 days in Yuma....a bit long for us but we did accomplish a lot. Our friend John Jamieson, from Kamloops has very generously stored our small car at his winter home in Yuma so in return Larry helped him construct a small shed. A place for his wife, Dawne to do her crafts.

Our friends, Val and Terry Smith arrived from Delta BC and spent over a week with us in Yuma. They parked next door. Poor dears had bad colds but we did manage to do a few fun things with them once their colds got better. While Larry slaved away at John's, Terry, Val and I snuck over to the Casino and hit a good jack pot between us....$800.00. Val and Terry pulled out for Baja on Sunday, November 02. They will meet up with Randy and Julie Haney at Potrero Regional park just North of the Tecate border crossing.

Chuck and Mairo Handley from Kaslo, BC arrived a few days before Val and Terry left. They are also Baja buddies but plan to winter in Yuma this year. They are booked into Araby Acres .. the same park as John Jamieson. Chuck is planning two motor bike trips to Baja. One in a few weeks with his son and the other in February with his son and three other guys. Terry and Val took a case of speciality oil to Los Barriles for them.

Bill and Marilyn arrived last Friday . On Monday, Nov 3 we went with Bill and Marilyn to Algo Dones, Mexico (a small Mexican town not far from Yuma). The four of us obtained our tourist permits there. While in Algo Dones Marilyn decided to get new glasses. They were going to take two hours to be ready so the four us just poked around town. Larry and Bill got hair cuts and we decided to do lunch and would you believe we ran into a long time freind of Larry's, a former Air traffic controller...Harry Toews and his wife, Carole. (They also have a place at Caravan's West where John and Dawne have their summer cottage at Shuswap Lake) They joined us for lunch....small world, eh?..

When we returned to our RV park our long time Baja Buddies, Barb and Jake Dyke (Nanaimo, BC) were sitting in our lawn chairs, patiently waiting for us. Thanks for waiting for us, Barb and Jake, it was a great visit. And for those if you who have known Barb over the years and know of her health woes, she is over the worse of it all and looks fantastic. What a trooper! They will also be spending the winter in the Arizona area.

Tuesday,November 4th, we got two solar panels installed on the camper and along with the Malletts we were able to leave Yuma by 1 pm. We headed for a BLM site just south of Why, Arizona which is a short distance from the Mexico crossing of Lukeville/Sonoyta.

We arrive at the Gunsight Wash BLM campground....
